Chlorinated paraffins

Chlorinated paraffins were used between 1950 and 2002 as:

  • Plasticisers in joints around windows and doors
  • Cutting oils
  • Anti-corrosive paint and primer

However, the vast majority found in construction work were used as plasticisers in external joints on buildings.

The same arrangements as when working with PCBs must be used when handling chlorinated paraffins.
